Helicopter Handling Qualities: A study in pilot control compensation

چکیده
Abstract The research reported in this paper is aimed at the development of a metric to quantify and predict extent pilot control compensation required fly wide range mission task elements. To do this, utility time- frequency-domain measures examine activity whilst flying hover/low-speed forward flight tasks are explored. were performed by two test pilots using both National Research Council (Canada)’s Bell 412 Advanced Systems Aircraft University Liverpool’s HELIFLIGHT-R simulator. Handling qualities ratings awarded for each compared with newly developed weighted adaptive based on discrete inputs, showing good correlation. Moreover, combination time-varying exposure, proposed shown be useful understanding relationship between pilot’s subjective assessment, measured performance. By collating results from objective metrics different elements, boundaries verify assessments Cooper-Harper Qualities Rating scale.

Aiaa 98-4148 a Study of Helicopter Handling Qualities in Turbulence Using a Human Pilot Structural Model
In this paper the impact of atmospheric turbulence on helicopter handling qualities is investigated using a simple random turbulence representation and a structural human pilot model. Linear approximation of the turbulence field and the frozen field concept are assumed. Effects of uniform field component and spatial gradients in the horizontal plane are individually evaluated on each axis. Turb...
متن کاملAnalytical Investigation of Helicopter Handling Qualities Criterion Using a Structural Pilot Model
Previous investigations using flight testing and simulator studies have identified influence of vehicle flight speed and control system sensitivity on the bandwidth-phase delay criterion, not accounted for in the proposed new handling qualities criteria for rotorcraft (ADS-33C). In this paper, the impact of flight speed and control system sensitivity on handling qualities as depicted by the ban...
متن کاملNonlinear Flight Control System Design Including Handling Qualities Evaluation
Progress in aircraft designs heavily depend on automatic flight control system. Modern aircraft have a wide flight envelope (linear and nonlinear) region. This study considers the design of stability and control augmentation system (SCAS) in high angle of attack region for a modern type aircraft via back stepping method. Because of highly nonlinear phenomena in aerodynamic parameters, a locally...
متن کاملOptimization for Flight Control System with Constraints Supplemented Handling Qualities
In this study, the direct method including evaluation criteria of handling qualities as optimization method’s constraints are carried out to complement problems of the indirect method that assesses whether a flight control system designed by existing optimization techniques satisfies handling qualities or not. For the direct method, co-evolutionary augmented Lagrangian method is used. F-16 long...
متن کاملAuto - Pilot : Autonomous Control of a remote controlled helicopter
An auto-pilot system was created which could track and control a Syma S107 RC mini infrared helicopter in real-time. The helicopter was tracked using two LEDs attached to it, one situated on the front of the helicopter and one situated on the tail. Image processing and object tracking algorithms were used to track the position of the helicopter. In order to perform real-time tracking, the metho...
